Lenin, starring Akhil Akkineni and Bhagyashri Borse, is a rural revenge drama that draws heavily from the Mahabharata, set against the backdrop of a traditional village festival. Directed by Murali Kishor Abburu and produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and Naga Vamsi, the film marks Akhil’s return to the big screen after a gap.Story (Spoiler-Free):Set in the village of Sriramapuram in Chittoor district, the story revolves around Lenin (Akhil Akkineni), an orphan who is raised by a wealthy woman alongside her own son. The narrative unfolds during the annual Bharatham Mitta (Draupadi Jatara) celebrations. What begins as a story of love, friendship, and loyalty gradually transforms into a tale of betrayal, revenge, and emotional conflict.The film uses the mythological references of the Mahabharata as a strong undercurrent, especially in the second half, where relationships are tested and secrets come to light.Performances:Akhil Akkineni delivers his most sincere and intense performance to date. He brings rawness and emotional depth to the character of Lenin, especially in the latter half. This is easily one of his best works and shows a more mature side of the actor.Bhagyashri Borse makes a strong impression with her confident screen presence and natural performance. She shares good chemistry with Akhil and stands out in her role.Supporting actors like Easwari Rao, Pramod Panju, Sivaji, and Brahmaji deliver solid performances, though some characters could have been explored more deeply.Direction & Technical Aspects:Director Murali Kishor Abburu has attempted a bold narrative by blending rural drama with mythological symbolism. While the first half feels slightly slow and conventional, the second half picks up pace with several twists.Thaman S’s background score is one of the biggest strengths of the film. It elevates several key sequences and adds intensity to the drama. The cinematography captures the rural atmosphere effectively, and the village festival sequences are well shot.However, the film suffers from a lengthy runtime and a few predictable moments. Some emotional scenes lack the required depth, and the excessive twists in the second half slightly dilute the impact.Verdict:Lenin is a sincere attempt at a serious rural drama that works mainly because of Akhil Akkineni’s powerful performance. While it doesn’t completely reinvent the revenge drama genre, it offers enough emotional moments and twists to keep the audience engaged, especially in the second half.If you’re looking for a mass commercial entertainer with songs and comedy, this might not be the film for you. But if you enjoy intense, character-driven rural dramas with strong performances, Lenin is worth a watch.
