Amaravati: The proposed National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) Regional Centre at Nekkallu near Amaravati has taken a significant step forward with a site inspection by senior NFDB officials.
The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has allocated 7.8 acres of land for establishing the NFDB Regional Centre, along with a Public Access Aqua Park and an Aquarium.
The proposed facility is expected to strengthen fisheries infrastructure, promote technology dissemination, enhance capacity building, and improve public awareness about sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
The inspection was led by Dr. Bijay Kumar Behera, Chief Executive, NFDB, accompanied by Shri Ch. Srinivas, Executive Director (Tech) and Dr. Kanchi Bhargavi, Senior Executive (Tech).
Officials reviewed the proposed site and discussed plans for developing a modern regional centre that will serve as a hub for fisheries research, training, innovation, and public outreach in Andhra Pradesh.
The project is expected to benefit fish farmers, researchers, students, and visitors by providing advanced fisheries technologies, educational facilities, and interactive public attractions through the Aqua Park and Aquarium.
With the establishment of the NFDB Regional Centre, Amaravati is poised to emerge as an important destination for fisheries development and aquaculture promotion in southern India.
